Dumping data using Windows Hyperterminal
For downloading data from the LI-6200 Portable Photosynthesis System, Windows Hyperterminal can be used as an alternative to the DOS-based software originally shipped with the system:
- Connect the LI-6200 to the computer with the 6200-04 cable. A 25-pin to 9-pin adapter may also be required.
- Locate the Hyperterminal program. In most cases, Hyperterminal is located under the Start menu - Programs - Accessories - Communications - Hyperterminal.
- Open a connection in Hyperterminal. Choose a COM port (usually COM1). Set the baud rate, data bits, stop bits, and parity according to the settings on the LI-6200. These are set at FCT 51.
- Open a "Capture Text" file in Hyperterminal. To do this, use the "Transfer" menu, and select the "Capture Text..." option. Name the file.
- Dump data from the LI-6200 as described in Chapter 7 of the LI-6200 Primer.
- When the data have been transferred, go back to the Transfer menu, Capture Text, and click on the Stop option. The file does not need to be saved, as it has already been written to the file specified in Step 4. Close Hyperterminal.
The resulting text file (.txt) can be imported into a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel, or the LI-6200 recomputation software.
