Making Soil CO2 Flux Measurements with the LI-6400XT

Analyzers in the Sensor Head

imageThe 6400-09, in conjunction with the LI-6400XT, provides maximum operational convenience and addresses the important difficulties for soil CO2 flux measurements. The key to the 6400-09 chamber design is having the infrared gas analyzers in the LI-6400XT sensor head. Having CO2 and H2O analyzers right on the soil chamber makes an ideal system:
  • No time delays and pressure gradients from an elaborate plumbing system.
  • Air is thoroughly mixed inside the chamber while minimizing pressure gradients.
  • Water vapor dilution correction results in consistently accurate data.
  • Automatic scrub to just below an ambient target maintains the CO2 gradient to within a few ppm of the natural, undisturbed value.
